The Goorabian Family Life Center (“FLC”) was started as a spark in the minds of several key people. In 1992, after the notorious L.A. riots, Rev. Roger Minassian began to conceive the idea of a place where local youth could find safe haven in the church, without feeling the social stigmas associated with a “church”. At the same time, Harry and Zabelle Goorabian – great supporters of the world of athletics and youth programs—were trying to find a way to invest in the community of Fresno. They dreamed of a similar place—a place where youth could be involved with team sports and at the same time receive the love, care, and Biblical teaching of a church. Reverend Minassian’s sermon particularly touched the Goorabians, and a meeting soon took place where the three gave the beginnings of life to the Goorabian Family Life Center. In early 1994, ground broke on this grand idea, and the building was completed and dedicated on September 9, 1994. The Goorabians have since passed on–gone to claim their reward. Harry Goorabian passed away in 1997 and Zabelle Goorabian just recently, in January 2007. We owe them a debt of gratitude for their tremendous generosity and foresight.
